Hey guys. I know there are quite a few of you that are avid tuners. I am wanting to switch over from AP to OS for now. I will be going to Hydra, probably around late March or early April.

I've read books, and posts, and posts, and websites, and posts, and posts about tuning. Especially OS specific stuff. It just doesn't make sense to me. I don't get it. Would any of you guys be willing to teach me how to tune for a fee? I don't want someone that is just going to look at my maps and logs and tell me what to change, I need someone that can tell me WHY to change it.

If any of you think you would be up for this post here, PM me, or call me at 803-206-3764. Thanks,
James

It is borked, if the it you refer to is me.

My tune is also crap, I'm using an OTS stage 2 map, when I need a stage 3 tune. I would rather pay someone to teach me to tune than just pay someone to tune for me. I'm running extremely rich and have some part throttle stutters. I will be able to tell exactly how rich as soon as I get a wideband and install it.

Stage 3???? Ok, why not!

It takes time to learn to tune, take it from someone who was learning. Let someone do you first tune and see how its done. After your car is solid, then learn. Dont do like I did and blow through 3 STi's.

Thanks for the advice.

I just don't want to pay someone to tune it and me still be completely in the blank about what is going on. I guess my biggest problem is that I kind of have the mentality of "if I can learn to operate a nuclear reactor, I should be able to learn to tune an ECU" but it just confuses the shit out of me.

I had the "I run multi-million dollar fiberoptic internet switches, I can tune a car".... I was wrong.... I paid a guy to tune it once and watched him like a hawk, then went from there. I studied while I was deployed this last time and as soon as I can, I plan on getting as much practical exercise as I can on a dyno.

It's just a different language is all man. I'm sure you can get the hang of it (like the stock market, that shit blows my mind on a daily basis).

There's tons of tuners that are good peeps, I'm sure you can find one that will be more than happy to walk you through what they are doing. IF not, just walk, and find someone that will. Just remember (as I'm sure you would) not to be the guy that is annoying, if you can find an opportunity to learn.

I'll go ahead and name drop a bit, I've seen Overactor tune several cars, and between him and Steve, they have been more than happy to explain what they are doing, and why. I think Overactor would be your best chance to learn. I'm sure he'll give you a speech on not changing what you don't know though (because then we'd all have to make fun of you when it blows up).

Thanks again. I am going to do some more reading and try to learn at least a little more of this on my own. Don't worry I'm not stupid enough to touch it without knowing what is expected to happen. Then I will start asking a few people specifically.

And just in case anyone missed it: I want to PAY someone to, I guess mentor me.
